Senator Jim Bunning (R-KY) the former major league baseball player who may have taken a few too many fast balls to the head is considering suing his own party according to reports in the Lexington Herald-Leader.
Mr. Bunning is well known for his bizarre comments, most recently saying that SCOTUS Judge, Ruth Bader-Ginsberg wouldn’t recover from cancer, is resisting the apparent efforts by the GOP establishment to usher him into retirement. Bunning is considered by his party to be one of the most vulnerable sitting Senators and the GOP would rather someone else run for the Kentucky seat.
Senator Bunning responded to rumors that the GOP is trying to find a primary challenger for his seat said: “I would have a suit against the (National Republican Senatorial Committee) if they did that,” Bunning told reporters on Tuesday. “In their bylaws, support of the incumbents is the only reason they exist.”
It’s unlikely that the national party would go so far as to openly support a challenger — but any failure to actively help out Bunning would speak volumes, and send all the messages to donors and activists that a challenger would need.
